21st Annual Berks Jazz Fest – the inspirational celebration of Jazz

Jazz is a style of music and a musical tradition which originated in the communities of African Americans at the beginning of the 20th century.  It is a blend of musical traditions relating to Africa and Europe. Ever since its origin, jazz has incorporated elements from American popular music of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a type of music that is quite difficult to define but a sure sensation for the ears and a food for the soul.

The 21st annual Berks Jazz Festival is arranged to take place in Reading, Pennsylvania.  This year’s festival is bound to be the biggest one of its kind yet as it will be featuring a wide variety of musical styles spanning the scale of jazz, R&B and Blues. Over the years the festival’s popularity has grown attracting almost 50,000 people from all over USA, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Europe and England.

The line-up of artists for the 21st year of this event includes Bucky Pizzarelli, Bob James, Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker, Brian Bromberg, Russ Freeman, Dave Brubeck, Nathan East and many more featuring  some of the hottest names in traditional and contemporary jazz, R&B, Blues, fusion and more. It is presented by the Berks Arts Council to be run from March 25 to April and over 130 events will be hosted at large venues, restaurants and clubs throughout Berks County.

There will be something for the enjoyment of everyone, with the ever-popular guitar & saxes, featuring Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Jeff Golub and Peter White; the legendary Al Jarreau and the George Duke; electric bass legends Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke and the guitar masters Frank Vignola, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Gene Bertoncini.

Names like The Rippingtons and Rick Braunare who will be joining the Reading Pops Orchestra are not to be missed as well as memorable shows by the Grammy award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell; jazz supergroup Fourplay; jazz-fusion masters Chieli Minucci & Special EFX; Pieces of a Dream and Phil Perry ; Richard Elliot and Norman Brown; Euge Groove and many more.
